Anytime Ohio State beats Michigan in anything, it is noteworthy. Anytime it’s done for a championship, it’s even more worth noting. That’s exactly what happened in Ann Arbor on Saturday when the Buckeyes finished a furious rally to beat the Wolverines by a total score of 10-8 to claim the outright Big Ten title.
It looked bleak late in the fourth quarter when OSU was down by three goals, 8-5, having not scored in over a quarter, and Michigan seemingly in control on the way to a title. But that’s when Ohio State found some magic, rattling off three-straight goals to tie the contest, then finding another from Ed Shean, his second of the day to take the lead, eventually adding an empty-net goal from Gannon Matthews, capping off a hat-trick for him for the winning margin.
It was an improbable comeback after OSU began the contest seemingly with the upper hand. The Buckeyes went into halftime in a defensive struggle, up 3-2, came out in the second half and were up by scores of 4-2 and 5-3 before Michigan finished with a flurry of four goals to take a 7-5 lead into the final quarter.

For the Buckeyes, it’s their first-ever Big Ten title. The win improved OSU’s overall record to 12-2 and finished their Big Ten winning record at 4-1. Now, it’s off to the Big Ten Tournament, where Ohio State will be the No. 1 seed.
Congrats to Nick Meyers who has been so close so many times on the conference title — with hopefully more to come.
