Dawn Staley Sends Exciting Message Amid Personal Achievement

Exciting times continue for South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley. Her new book, “Uncommon Favor,” is about to hit the market and build on the momentum of a remarkable year.

The book’s release follows South Carolina’s run to the NCAA Tournament championship game, where the Gamecocks ultimately fell short against the Paige Bueckers-led UConn Huskies.

Now 55, the former college and WNBA star has been busy promoting her book while continuing to grab talent from the transfer portal and the recruiting trail.

On Friday, Staley took to social media to share a special message from her upcoming release.

“I wanted to read to you one of my favorite parts of my new book Uncommon Favor. You can read or listen to it for yourself when it comes out May 20! Get ready!” Staley captioned.

She then read a powerful passage:

“It’s a rare gift to find your place in the world as a child. To stumble so early onto the thing that makes you whole. I still remember the antsy feeling I got waiting for my school day to hurry up and end, so I can get back to business, so I could get back to business. Basketball.”

Staley played four standout seasons at the University of Virginia, finishing her college career with 131 games played and 2,135 total points. She went on to play eight seasons in the WNBA with the Charlotte Sting and Houston Comets.

Her coaching career began at Temple, where she compiled a 172-80 record. After the 2007-08 season, she took over at South Carolina. The Gamecocks didn’t make the NCAA Tournament in her first three seasons, but haven’t missed it since the 2010-11 campaign.

Beyond coaching and her new book, Staley also hosts a podcast called “NetLife,” produced by Just Women’s Sports.
