The Boston Celtics enter the 2025 NBA playoffs as the defending champions. They’re among the favorites to secure the Larry O’Brien trophy at the end of the season. As such, the Celtics are shouldering a significant amount of expectations as they begin their push for the NBA Finals.
Fortunately for the Celtics, that pressure can begin to be relieved on Sunday, April 20, when Boston faces the Orlando Magic in the opening game of their first-round matchup. And while Orlando won’t be an easy out, the Celtics will have far higher goals than winning their opening series.
During a recent news conference, Jayson Tatum shared his perspective on Boston’s bid for a championship. The All-NBA forward noted how the Celtics are no longer champions, as that was last season’s achievement. By changing his perspective, Tatum is likely tapping into his competitive nature and ensuring that there’s no complacency in how he approaches the upcoming postseason.
