Yankees Make Notable Trade Just Hours After Aaron Judge Injury News originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The New York Yankees currently have their backs against the wall. After dropping the first two games of the weekend series against the Philadelphia Phillies, they sit at 56-48 overall—6 1/2 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East and clinging to a one-game cushion in the Wild Card race.
To make matters worse, the team was forced to place superstar Aaron Judge on the injured list after he tweaked his elbow on Friday night. Judge, who leads the league with a .342 batting average and 1.160 OPS, fortunately avoided major damage, as imaging revealed a clean UCL—a common cause of serious elbow injuries.
Now, with the MLB trade deadline looming this coming week, the Yankees are wasting no time. They’ve already filled a key infield need by acquiring former Colorado Rockies star Ryan McMahon. Then, just hours after placing Judge on the IL, they struck another deal—this time for utility man Amed Rosario from the Washington Nationals.
In return, the Nationals are receiving right-handed pitching prospect Clayton Beeter and 18-year-old outfielder Browm Martinez.

While Amed Rosario has spent most of his career as a primary infielder, he’s taken on a more versatile role this season—seeing time at third base, shortstop, second base, and even in the outfield, where the Yankees may look to deploy him with Aaron Judge currently sidelined.
Rosario has bounced around the league, but he’s proven to be productive in the right situations—particularly against left-handed pitching, where he tends to thrive. In 148 at-bats with the Nationals this season, he’s hitting .270 with five home runs, 18 RBIs, and a .736 OPS.
Before his stint in Washington, Rosario spent time with the Cincinnati Reds, Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Dodgers, and most notably, the Cleveland Guardians (three seasons) and New York Mets (four seasons).
