Despite missing Caitlin Clark for a second-straight game, the Indiana Fever were able to secure a 94-86 win over Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings, evening up their record to 8-8 to begin the 2025 WNBA season.

Clark has now missed seven games this season after playing all 40 in her rookie year. She was sidelined for five games beginning in late May with a quad strain and has missed the last two due to a groin injury.

Still, even while watching the game from the bench, the Fever won in front of a sold-out crowd of 20,409 at American Airlines Arena, making Texas women’s basketball history in the process.

The WNBA has had an increased spotlight since Clark joined the league in 2024, including the most-watched regular season on ESPN platforms. And Clark’s impact on the league hasn’t gone unnoticed by Houston Comets legend Cynthia Cooper.

During the game, Fieldhouse Files’ Scott Agness reported a quote from Cooper, admiring the impact the last two draft classes have had. Those include Bueckers’ 2025 class and Clark’s 2024.

“These last two rookie classes have been amazing,” Cooper said. “They’ve bridged the gap between college fans & WNBA fans – and I just love all of energy that has been generated from these last two rookie classes… Caitlin has done a fantastic job. I’m a huge fan.”

Cooper, or Cooper-Dyke, only played five seasons in the WNBA, all with the Comets, from 1997-2000 and 2003. Yet, the former USC Trojans star was still able to accomplish four WNBA championships, four Finals MVPs, two WNBA MVPs and three scoring titles.

The Fever will have a few days off before taking on Napheesa Collier and the Minnesota Lynx in the Commissioner’s Cup Championship Game on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. ET.
