INDIANAPOLIS — Pacers forward Aaron Nesmith is still listed as questionable for Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Knicks with a sprained right ankle, though he played through the injury for 32:26 in Game 4.
The Pacers’ do everything wing suffered the injury with 6:06 to go in the third quarter of Game 3 on Sunday and had to be helped off the floor, but after treatment he played the last seven minutes of the fourth quarter of that game. He predictably felt sore on Monday morning, but he went through extensive treatment Monday and Tuesday and was declared available for Game 4 more than two hours before tip-off.
Pacers coach Rick Carlisle acknowledged, however, that there would be a chance that a plane flight to New York could bring pain and swelling.
“Hopefully he can bounce back from tonight,” Carlisle said Tuesday. “… He’ll work hard to stay ready and we’ll see where we are whatever day it is, Thursday.”
Nesmith scored 16 points and was +20 in Game 4 and he’s been one of the Pacers’ most consistent performers in the playoffs. He’s averaging 15.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in the playoffs and shooting 52.5% from the floor and 51.9% from 3-point range. He was one of the heroes of Game 1 of the series, scoring 30 points and hitting 8 of 9 3-point attempts including a record six in the fourth quarter. He averaged 12.0 points per game in the regular season and has been one of the Pacers’ top perimeter defenders along with Andrew Nembhard.
