Why Dallas plans to make Cooper Flagg 'uncomfortable' at Summer League

The Dallas Mavericks clearly have faith in their top 2025 NBA Draft pick Cooper Flagg, so much so that they plan to make him “uncomfortable” in NBA Summer League completion.

During recent media availability, Mavs coach Jason Kidd talked about how he wants to mix things up for the former Duke forward during summer game play and see how he reacts.

“I don’t look at the position,” Kidd said. “I want to put him at point guard. I want to make him uncomfortable and see how he reacts (to) being able to run the show.”

Obviously, this doesn’t mean Kidd wants to watch Flagg struggle just for struggling’s sake. This clearly shows the kind of confidence Dallas has in him to adapt on the fly to new responsibilities.

“We want to push,” Kidd continued. “And I think he’s going to respond in a positive way. It’s all right to fail. It’s all right to turn the ball over. We’ve talked about that.”

While we doubt we see Flagg running point a ton during his first NBA season, it’s good that the Mavs are trying to get the first overall pick accustomed to all the kinds of things he might do one day on the Dallas basketball court.
