Winning the Masters Tournament and earning a Green Jacket is one of, if not the highest, honor in golf.
While some hear “Masters champion” and think of Tiger Woods or Arnold Palmer, there have been dozens of winners over more than 70 years. Here are all the champions since the tournament began in 1934.

Scottie Scheffler claimed his second green jacket in 2024, finishing 11-under-par over 72 holes and four shots ahead of rookie Ludvig Åberg.
Who won the first Masters?
Horton Smith won the first Masters in 1934 with -4, receiving a prize of $1,500 which in today’s money is about $36,000, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ inflation calculator. For comparison, Scottie Scheffler walked away from the Augusta National last year with $3.6 million.
How many times has Tiger Woods won the Masters?
Tiger Woods has won the Masters five times including 1997, 2001, 2002, 2005, and 2009. He is not playing at this year’s Masters due to a ruptured Achilles while training for the tournament which required surgery. He is still rehabbing at home in Florida.

Tiger Woods still holds the record for youngest person to ever win the Masters for his victory in 1997 at 21 years old. Interestingly, his 2019 win at age 43 also makes him the second oldest Masters champion.

Jack Nicklaus still holds the record for oldest person to ever win the Masters for his victory in 1986 at 46 years old.
