If you listen to the talking heads in the media, you would think that the Tennessee Titans have one of the worst rosters in the NFL. While it’s true that they have some young and unproven players set to take on significant roles in 2025, they do have talent and could surprise.
One area where the Titans are set is along their defensive line.
While there are still questions that need to be answered on the edge, the core of their defensive line is one of the best in the NFL.
Don’t believe it? Even with questions on the edge, Zoltan Buday of Pro Football Focus (PFF) still has the Titans’ defensive line ranked inside the top half of the league.
14. Tennessee Titans
The Titans feature one of the best interior defender units in the NFL. Jeffery Simmons has been among the best at the position throughout his career, so it is no surprise that he ranked eighth with an 80.0 PFF overall grade in 2024. Rookie T’Vondre Sweat (76.1 PFF overall grade) and Sebastian Joseph-Day (70.2 PFF overall grade) also ranked in the top 25 at the position.
Tennessee’s situation on the edge is less promising, with Arden Key‘s 69.7 PFF overall grade leading the group in 2024 but ranking only 40th across the league.
Tennessee is set with its base defensive linemen, but they have to answer some questions at the edge. Arden Key is set on one side, but outside of him, what the combination of veterans Dre’Mont Jones, Lorenzo Carter, Titus Leo, Jaylen Harrell, Ali Gaye, and rookie Femi Oladejo bring to the table to help improve the team’s lackluster pass rush will have a considerable impact on the defensive production in 2025.
The edge battle and the competition for depth spots behind Simmons, Sweat, and Joseph-Day will be interesting battles to watch throughout training camp, which opens on July 22.
