The Grizzlies got embarrassed on April 20 in Oklahoma City.
There’s really no other way to start after Memphis lost by a historic margin in Game 1 of an NBA playoff first-round series against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Grizzlies lost 131-80.
The Thunder led by 12 at the end of the first quarter, but they exploded at the beginning of the second quarter with a 19-2 run and never looked back. The Grizzlies never had any answers, and the lead only got worse and worse throughout the game.
The largest margin of victory in a regular-season game in NBA history actually went the other way when the Grizzlies beat the Thunder by 73 points on Dec. 2, 2021.
Memphis lost by 51 points on Sunday, representing the second-worst loss in Grizzlies history and the fifth-worst loss in NBA playoff history. It was also the largest margin of victory in a Game 1 in NBA playoff history.
Game 2 in the series will be on April 22 (6:30 p.m., TNT).
