After the Oklahoma City Thunder ultimately toppled the Indiana Pacers in the NBA Finals, attention from the league and its fans now turns to the 2025 NBA draft.
Duke superstar Cooper Flagg is expected to be this year’s No. 1 overall pick for the Dallas Mavericks, a franchise looking to build up a new-look roster after trading away former EuroLeague MVP and five-time All-NBA standout Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
But when is this year’s draft? What’s the draft order after the Mavs get the top choice off their big board? Do the Cleveland Cavaliers have any meaningful selections this year?

Why don’t the Cleveland Cavs have a first-round pick in the 2025 NBA draft?
While Cavs fans may be frustrated that they don’t have a first rounder in this year’s draft, it’s for good reason.
When Cleveland acquired All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz, the Cavs sent away first-round picks in 2025, 2027 and 2029 (along with pick swap rights in 2026 and 2028). That trade also sent away forward Lauri Markkanen, guard Collin Sexton and guard Ochai Agbaji to Utah.
So, while the Cavs don’t have a first-round choice this year because of the Mitchell deal, they still have two second-round selections they can use to try and find a diamond in the rough to help their roster.
