With 48 hours until South Carolina kicks off its 2025 season against Virginia Tech, the Gamecocks remain a 7.5-point favorite over the Hokies, according to BetMGM.
The over/under is currently set at 51.5 points for an implied score of 29.5-22.
South Carolina originally opened as a 10-point favorite in the Aflac Kickoff Game matchup.
ESPN’s FPI gives South Carolina a 70.9 percent chance of winning the matchup.
The No. 13 Gamecocks are coming off a 9-4 season and have College Football Playoff aspirations, while Virginia Tech is hoping to rebound from a 6-7 season in 2024 that saw them lose five games by one score or less.
“Obviously, playing a great opponent in Virginia Tech,” South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer said. “You old heads that have been around here for a little bit will remember that these two teams used to play every year, and my dad became the head coach at Virginia Tech in 1987, and they played in ’87, they played in ’88, they played in ’89, they played in ’90, they played in ’91 as well.
“And then South Carolina went into the SEC, and Virginia Tech went into the old Big East Conference that was created back in the early ’90s, and then they didn’t play anymore. I thought then, as a kid growing up, that these were two teams that needed to play every year, and it’s crazy that we haven’t in so long. It’ll be exciting to play against a team that we have a history with as well, and a good football team.”
The Gamecocks and Hokies will kick off at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on ESPN.
