What did Barcelona star Lamine Yamal say to his former teammate before his departure?

Barcelona are focused on offloading players this summer in their attempt to fix the financial constraints. The Catalans are willing to hear offers for multiple players, while some have already left the club.

One of the latest players to move out of Camp Nou has to be Ansu Fati, who has joined AS Monaco on loan ahead of the 2025/26 season in search of regular gametime.

Fati was once hailed as the successor of Lionel Messi as he broke multiple age-group records donning the Barcelona colours. But due to incessant injuries and inconsistent form, he has struggled to establish himself at Camp

The 22-year-old revealed that he had a chat with former teammate Lamine Yamal before moving to Monaco. Fati and Yamal are close friends from their La Masia days.

“I spoke to him. We’re always together in Barcelona,” he told Marca. “And I know he loves me very much and wishes me the best. It’s mutual, and the truth is, almost the entire team has wished me luck. They’re good people with whom I’ve been at La Masia for a long time. I wish them the best, and especially Lamine.”

While their career graphs have gone different ways, the friendship and the bond between the two young players have remained the same.

Interestingly, Fati was earlier awarded the iconic Barcelona number 10 jersey, which was once worn by Messi, Maradona, Ronaldinho, etc.

However, since Fati’s departure, Barcelona has handed that number to Yamal, who has developed into a standout player for the Catalans at the age of 18.

What did Ansu Fati say about his setbacks at Barcelona?

Fati made his senior team debut for Barcelona in 2019 and went on to feature in 123 matches for the club, scoring 29 goals.

However, his rise was hindered by injury problems and a drop in form. He was eventually loaned out to Brighton in September 2023.

Although he played 27 matches across competitions and scored four goals, he only made three starts in the Premier League for the Seagulls.

He returned to Barcelona and the situation remained the same, as he only featured in 11 matches in the 2024/25 campaign.

When asked why things didn’t go his way at Barcelona, Fati said, “I don’t know. I’ve always tried to be as good as possible. I believe in God, and in the end, what happens to me is something I can’t control, but I can minimize the risks, and that’s what I do. I try to work as hard as possible to be as good as possible, and even if things don’t work out, I keep fighting, and I’m sure I’ll find my moment again and enjoy it again.”

Fati, alongside Paul Pogba and Eric Dier are the three new signings for Monaco this summer. The Spanish winger will be keen to resurrect his career in France.
