“We Need Five More” – Moyes Eyes Massive Everton Revamp After 3-0 Loss originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Ahead of a new Premier League season, Everton will begin a new era as they will play their first season in the Hill Dickinson Stadium, replacing the iconic Goodison Park.
With the new owner, Thomas Dan Friedkin, in charge, David Moyes sets a pathway to new success for Everton, starting next season. Moyes returned to the club as manager in early January and helped the Toffees avoid relegation.
In preparation for the new season, the Scottish manager was vocal about his desire to bring new reinforcements to the squad ahead of the new season.
With a few weeks before the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season, Moyes made it known that his squad needs more players and quality, as the squad is currently thin.
After Everton’s 3-0 loss against Bournemouth in the pre-season tournament, Premier League Summer Series, Moyes’ words on bringing numerous signings have been proven right. The manager once again numbers how many players he wants to add to the squad.
David Moyes: “Today was always going to be difficult with the lack of numbers. We’ve signed 3, and we need 5 more.”
David Moyes on Everton’s Pursuit of New Players
Last night in New York City, Moyes spoke with Roger Bennett of Men in Blazers in a live show with Everton presented by Christopher Ward. Moyes was asked what type of players he is looking to bring to Everton for the new season.
When discussing the type of players he wants, he mentions players who want to play for the club. He also mentioned the number of players Moyes believes is necessary for Everton to improve from last season.
Moyes thinks nine to ten new signings could help Everton pursue heights once achieved, like qualifying for European football.
David Moyes: “We really want great character at Everton, but we also want, we need to improve the quality… We probably have to sign about nine or ten players before the start of the season.”

What’s Next for Everton?
Everton’s pre-season has not been going to plan as they have suffered two losses in a row and are winless after three friendly games. They drew 1-1 against Accrington Stanley and lost 1-0 against Blackburn Rovers.
Despite the 3-0 loss against Bournemouth, Moyes revealed the real approach behind pre-season matches for Everton. Before the match, Moyes believes the key is the players’ fitness rather than the result.
Everton’s next two friendlies will be against two former clubs as manager, West Ham United and Manchester United. Moyes
