Texas A&M’s 2026 recruiting class features two of the top-ranked running backs in the cycle, and with the Aggies’ 2025 football season set to begin on Saturday night, four-star RB commit Jonathan Hatton and KJ Edwards will make their way to College Station for the 2025 season opener vs. UTSA.
Before both prospects sign their letter of intent, likely in early December, their final high school seasons are the main priority, and as we all know, Fright Night Lights in the Lone Star State is unmatched. From a skill set perspective, Hatton is the more powerful runner with elite agility, while Edwards is pure speed, which creates a potentially lethal duo for in the future Texas A&M backfield.
On Friday night, both running backs put on impressive performances, delivering breakaway touchdowns that further solidified their high recruiting rankings.
Edwards, a senior at Carthage High School, burst through the first hole he saw for a 64-yard touchdown. In contrast, Hatton, a senior at Steele High School, maneuvered his way through defenders for a 94-yard score, showing off that elite agility I referenced earlier.

KJ Edwards is currently positioned as the 48th-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, and while he has yet to shut down his recruitment, Texas A&M’s only main competition for the standout back is LSU, where he plans to visit this fall.

Jonathan Hatton, who committed to Texas A&M over Oklahoma after decommitting from the Sooners, is the 67th-ranked prospect in the cycle (247Sports Composite) and is one of over a dozen 2026 Aggie commits to shut down his recruitment, which was definitely a sigh of relief for Mike Elko and RB coach Trooper Taylor, barring any change in Edwards’ status.
