Luka Modric is on the ground in Italy and is ready to complete the final formalities of his transfer to Milan. “I’m very happy to be here,” were his first words after arriving at Malpensa on Monday morning.
The 39-year-old is joining Milan on a free transfer after the expiry of his contract with Real Madrid, which brings a 13-season spell at the Santiago Bernabeu to an end.
Modric is expected to put pen to paper on a one-year contract with an option to extend until the summer of 2027, which would take him through until the age of 41 if that were to be the case.
