SMU opened the 2025 season with a bang as quarterback Kevin Jennings hit wide receiver Romello Brinson for a 63-yard touchdown pass to put the Mustangs up 7-0 on East Texas A&M. Check out the first touchdown of 2025 below.
Jennings enters his first full season as the SMU starting quarterback and has confidence after leading the Mustangs to a College Football Playoff berth.
“Yeah, I think it definitely started in the offseason,” Jennings said this week. “Just seeing the team in summer workouts, seeing the team in fall camp, and all of that. Just knowing that everybody is ready for the challenge. We know last year we had a good season, and that’s our goal to just get back there and win it this year. And I think everybody is prepared for that.”
With Brinson, he redshirted in 2024, allowing him to return for one final season of college football with SMU. Right before Brinson scored, SMU wide receiver Jordan Hudson went down with an injury and went to the locker room after the first play of the game.
SMU is battling East Texas A&M on ACC Network and faces Baylor next week in Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
