California’s high school football season is only in Week Zero, but we may already have our play of the year.

Corona Centennial, ranked third in California and 11th in the country, had a handful of breakout performances on Friday in a season-opening 42-14 rout of Servite.

Among the list of new stars was senior wide receiver Ty Plinski, who entered 2025 with a career varsity total of one reception for four yards. He kicked off his senior year with a one-handed 15-yard touchdown catch that brings Odell Beckham Jr. to mind and gave the Huskies a 14-0 lead less than three minutes into the game.

Within a couple hours of the game ending, the catch had reached the folks at ESPN, where SportsCenter ranked it as the No. 1 play of the day on its nightly top 10.

Throwing the dime after recovering a tough snap was senior QB Dominick Catalano, who finished with three touchdown passes.

Centennial would take a 21-0 lead a few minutes later and led 35-0 at halftime. Keawe Browne had two touchdown catches for the Huskies, and Malaki Davis ran for three touchdowns.

Corona Centennial’s challenging schedule continues heating up in the next three weeks, and play three Trinity League teams in their first four games. Next week the Huskies head to Santa Margarita, and two weeks later they host reigning national champion Mater Dei.
