Warriors Predicted to Make 2 Key Contract Decisions This Weekend

The Warriors enter the 2025 NBA offseason with one clear issue that needs resolving–the status of wing Jonathan Kuminga, who is heading into restricted free agency and, possibly, an exit through a sign-and-trade deal.

Other than Kuminga, though, the Dubs do not have many pressing issues. They drafted a pair of prospects–Alex Toohey and Will Richard–who are unlikely to make an impact in 2025-26, and will be looking for a way to add a big man to the roster.

There are, though, two decisions that the team will need to make by Sunday, June 29: What to do with the contract options on young reserves Gui Santos and Quinten Post?

Post, a second-rounder, was a surprise contributor last year, playing better as the season went on. He averaged 8.1 points and 3.5 rebounds in 16.3 minutes. Santos, meanwhile, is a high-upside, high-energy project player the team took from Brazil in 2022. In his second NBA season, he averaged 4.1 points and 3.1 rebounds in 13.6 minutes.

Both have team options on their modest contracts this offseason. Writing at Spotrac.com, contract guru Keith Smith noted that the Warriors are certain to keep both players.

Of Post’s $1.9 million option, Smith wrote, “The Warriors will pick up this option for Post. He’s worth far more than this, which makes it a very team-friendly figure for Golden State. In addition, the Warriors will still have the ability to make Post a restricted free agent next summer.”

And of Santos’s $2.2 million option: “Santos is in the same boat as Post, just for slightly more money. Everything else is exactly the same, so he’ll be back with the Warriors next season, too.”

The Warriors have a tough decision to make on Kuminga. But they have easy ones on Post and Santos. The team’s option decisions are due by Sunday, June 29.
