Warriors add Australian wing in second round of Rookie Wire mock draft

Throughout draft season, the Warriors have been linked to multiple different prospects in mock drafts with the No. 41 overall pick. Some mocks have Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Steve Kerr selecting a proven veteran college player that could potentially contribute right away, while some mocks have the Warriors adding a young developmental prospect.

In the latest mock draft from Cody Taylor of USA TODAY’s Rookie Wire, the Warriors went the international route. With the 11th pick in the second round, Taylor mocked Australia’s Alex Toohey to the Warriors.

The 21-year-old wing played the last two seasons for the Sydney Kings in Australia’s NBL. During the 2024-25 season, the 6-foot-7 forward averaged 10.6 points on 44.9% shooting from the field to go along with four rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.3 assists per game.

After his 2024-25 campaign with the Kings, Toohey earned the NBL’s Next Generation Award, given to the best player under 25 years old.

In 2022, Toohey initially committed to play college basketball in the States for Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Yet, in 2023, Toohey decommitted and played in the NBL for the Kings.

The NBA Draft is set to begin on June 25 with the first round. The second round will start on June 26 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
