The sports entertainment industry and wresting community was struck with some sad news on Thursday when it was revealed that former WWE legend and Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan passed away at his home in Clearwater, Florida at the age of 71.

Hogan bursted onto the scene in 1979 and was a staple of wrestling from the time he began to when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005.

The sport doesn’t become what it has without wrestlers like Hogan paving the way with his unique charisma, energy, and gimmicks that made him a fan favorite during his time with the company.

Following the news, former WWE CEO and well-known figure in the sport Vince McMahon reacted to the news of Hogan passing away and released a statement on his social media.

“The world lost a treasure today. Hulk Hogan was the greatest WWE Superstar of ALL TIME, someone who was loved and admired around the world. He was a trailblazer, the first performer who transitioned from being a wrestling star into a global phenomenon.”

McMahon continued, “His grit and unbridled thirst for success were unparalleled – and made him the consummate performer. He gave everything he had to the audience whom he appreciated, respected and loved.

He leaves us with one of his favorite expressions, “Train, take your vitamins and say your prayers.” Today, we pray for him.”

Vince McMahon and Hulk Hogan, in many ways, emerged onto the national scene together. While McMahon began his WWE career as a ring announcer in 1969, it wasn’t until 1982 that he took control of the company—around the same time Hogan was beginning to make a name for himself.

Together, McMahon and Hogan became two of the most influential figures in wrestling history, helping to transform WWE into a global entertainment empire. Today, that legacy continues under the leadership of McMahon’s daughter, Stephanie and co-CEO Nick Khan.
