The Minnesota Vikings have had a rotation of return guys in recent years while they look for someone who can add some explosive playmaking to their special teams.
When the Vikings signed Eagles cornerback Isaiah Rodgers during free agency, they may have found a potential answer. The veteran cornerback boasts an impressive 27.1 return average in his career and even has a 101-yard return touchdown to his credit in his career. There isn’t much more you can ask for in terms of getting an explosive return man.
That is where a special request from special teams coordinator Matt Daniels during his media session on Wednesday comes into play.
“He’s (Isaiah Rodgers) been an elite guy back there with the ball in his hands, and obviously he’s starting at corner more right now, so that’ll be a conversation I have to have with the upper management.”
Brian Flores and his defense do not have the depth at the moment at cornerback that they usually boast. Although if some of the younger guys are able to take a step up in their development, they could spare Rodgers to the return game to help spark things in that department.
It will be something to follow as we close out minicamp on Thursday and pivot towards training camp in July.
