A third international prospect has joined Louisville basketball‘s 2025 recruiting class.
Vangelis Zougris, a 6-foot-8, 249-pound forward who has spent the past four seasons playing for Peristeri B.C. in the Greek Basketball League, committed to Pat Kelsey and the Cardinals on Thursday, according to a report from Jon Chepkevich of DraftExpress.com on X, formerly Twitter.
Jon Chepkevich of DraftExpress.com was first to report the news.
Appearing in 23 games (17:40 per) during Peristeri B.C.’s 2024-25 campaign, Zougris averaged 7.9 points on 68.5% shooting with 4.6 rebounds. The 20-year-old has also earned playing time on Greece’s senior national team, logging five games in the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers.
Zougris will be one of three new international forwards on U of L’s roster for Year 2 of the Kelsey era. The Cards scored a commitment in February from 21-year-old Sananda Fru, who in early May was named the Best German Young Player in the Basketball Bundesliga. And on May 19, they landed 20-year-old Mouhamed Camara out of NBA Academy Africa.
According to to10.gr, Zougris didn’t play basketball until he entered high school. From ages 6 to 14, soccer was his game.
Zougris debuted for Peristeri B.C. at 17 years old in 2021. He also appeared in five games for Greece’s U18 team in the FIBA European Challengers. His best run in international competition came last year, when he helped his country win a second consecutive bronze medal in the FIBA U20 EuroBasket and earned all-tournament honors.
His final stat line: 11.6 points and 8.3 rebounds rebounds per game — with 1.7 steals and 1.4 blocks to boot.
With Greece’s senior national team in the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers, Zougris averaged five points and 5.6 rebounds across 15.9 minutes per appearance.
At least four scholarship players from Kelsey’s inaugural Louisville team are returning in 2025-26:
Aly Khalifa is appealing an NCAA ruling deeming him ineligible for the upcoming season. He is allowed to continue preparing as if he’ll play while waiting on a decision — and could take the matter to court if his request for an extension of his eligibility clock is denied.
Zougris, Camara and Fru are three of seven newcomers entering the fold. The others are:
