On Sunday, USC baseball’s Ethan Hedges was selected in the third round of the MLB draft by the Colorado Rockies. On Monday, two more Trojans heard their names called at the event.
First, the Baltimore Orioles took pitcher Caden Hunter in the sixth round. After transferring in from junior college prior to the 2025 season, Hunter was primarily a starter for the Trojans this past year, while also pitching some out of the bullpen. He went 6-6 on the season with a 5.50 ERA.
Then, infielder Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek was selected in the 20th and final round by the New York Yankees. A redshirt junior, this was Martin-Grudzielanek’s second year in a row being drafted. Last year, the Toronto Blue Jays took him also in the 20th round, but he did not sign and returned to USC for the 2025 season, during which he hit .294 with eight home runs and 41 RBIs.
The MLB Draft signing deadline is on July 28. With all three of USC’s draftees having college eligibility remaining, they will each have until then to decide whether to sign with the team that drafted them or return to the Trojans in 2026.
