The University of North Florida men’s tennis team dominated the post-season ASUN awards with junior Andreas Scott earning ASUN Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year and combining with graduate Bruno Vietri as the ASUN Doubles Team of the Year.
Scott, the ASUN Tournament MVP in 2024, has an 8-0 ASUN record entering the conference tournament at the UNF Tennis Complex, beginning on April 17. He and Vietri had a 5-1 record as the Ospreys’ No. 1 doubles team, 4-0 in ASUN matches.
Scott has a 3.94 grade point average, majoring in accounting.
UNF has had a player sweep the Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year two seasons in a row. Jonas Hartenstein did in 2014.
Youssef Labbene was named to the All-Freshman team. Vietri was named to the All-Academic team.
Aitor Reparaz of top-seeded North Alabama was named Coach of the Year and Giovanni Ciocca of Lipscomb is the freshman of the year.
Laurie Barendse named All-ASUN
Junior Laurie Barendse of UNF was named to the All-ASUN womens tennis first team, the 17th consecutive season that the Ospreys have had a player on the first team. Gabby Goyins and Aryana Bartlett were named to the All-Freshman team, the 16th year in a row UNF has had a freshman honored.
Bartlett was named to the All-ASUN second team and junior Isabel Oliveira made the All-Academic team.
Barendse was 9-8 overall and 5-3 in the ASUN as UNF’s No. 1 singles player. Goyins was 11-5 overall and 6-3 in the conference and Barlett 8-9 and 6-1.
Oliveira has a 3.76 GPA and has earned her Master’s of Business Administration.
Cheri Darley of Stetson, who is 14-1 in singles, is the ASUN Player of the Year.
Stanislava Bobrovnikova and Eeve Ristola of North Alabama were the women’s Doubles Team of the Year; Anjali Kotecha of Florida Gulf Coast was the Freshman of the Year; and Olaya Garrido-Rivas of North Alabama and Travis Sandlant of Stetson tied for Coach of the Year.
The ASUN women’s tournament also begins on April 17 at UNF.
