UFC 316's Kevin Holland calls out Colby Covington: 'I like beating up on sorry people'

NEWARK, N.J. – Kevin Holland just called for a fight that could have the most trash talk in MMA history.

Holland (28-13 MMA, 15-10 UFC), who’s referred to as “Big Mouth” by UFC CEO Dana White due to his trash talking in and out of the cage, called out arguably the biggest villain in UFC welterweight history, Colby Covington. Holland shot his shot following his submission win over Vicente Luque on the main card of Saturday’s UFC 316 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

“Colby Covington, you’re the worst guy in the welterweight division,” Holland said on the microphone in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan. “I like beating up on sorry people.”

Following the win, Holland spoke to reporters backstage where he elaborated further on his callout. He thinks that a fight between him and Covington would be one of the biggest non-title fights you could make today.

“I think it will be a good one,” Holland said at the UFC 316 post-fight news conference. “I know they’re doing ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ house right now with Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen, but to be honest with you, they can just cancel that one and just do me and Colby. Me and Colby could do whatever. Anything me and Colby do would sell.

“It can be fun. It can be a lot of sh*t talking. It can be whatever it needs to be. I think me and Colby do numbers, and it would be the highest Fight Night. If we were to be on a pay-per-view event, we’d help sell that thing out. You wouldn’t even need a stacked undercard.”

Holland is now 2-0 since making a return to the welterweight division. Prior to submitting Luque, Holland had defeated UFC staple Gunnar Nelson in a hard-fought decision. Meanwhile, Covington hasn’t fought since December when he was stopped by Joaquin Buckley. Covington, a two-time UFC welterweight title challenger, is on a two-fight losing streak and 2-4 in his past six trips to the octagon.
