UConn Football opens the 2025 season this Saturday by welcoming the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils to Rentschler Field, with kickoff set for 2:00 pm ET. Before we dive into the matchup, let’s take a look at what the Huskies are going against in their home opener.

The defending Northeast Conference Co-Champions are coming off a solid 2024 campaign. After posting a 7-5 regular season record and qualifying for the FCS playoffs for the first time since 2019, the Blue Devils enter 2025 with high expectations, bolstered by the return of key players from the previous season. Although Central Connecticut competes at the FCS level, it is week one, so anything could happen.

Head Coach Adam Lechtenberg

Overall Record (2024): 10-13

Central Connecticut hired Lechtenberg in 2023 after short stints as a position coach for programs like TCU, Virginia Tech and Memphis. After early struggles in his tenure, he lifted the Blue Devils over the hump in 2024, highlighted by their NEC title run before losing to Rhode Island in the FCS playoffs. The playoff berth proved to be enough to keep his job, as Lechtenberg looks to keep the train rolling for his third year.
