This year’s edition of the MLB Home Run Derby X competition will feature three representatives from the Florida softball program. Catcher Jocelyn Erickson, along with outfielders Taylor Shumaker and Amanda Lorenz, will participate on behalf of the Orange and Blue in the co-ed competition. 

The format for the MLB Home Run Derby X is based on a 3-on-3 baseball design that focuses on power hitting, athletic catching and defense. Each team consists of two MLB players and a female softball player to complete the triad, while the games are set up to combine “the most exciting elements” of a nine-inning baseball game into a 30-minute format.

“This summer, 16 teams will feature across 6 qualifying events in Atlanta, Round Rock, Durham, Oklahoma City, Des Moines, and a sixth venue to be announced,” the official website notes. “Winners guarantee their place at the Finals Weekend in Salt Lake City, where the 2025 Derby X champion will be crowned.”

Erickson will be the first Gator to compete on July 13 in Atlanta, while Lorenz will participate in the Oklahoma City event on August 23 and Shumaker will compete in the Iowa event on August 30 in Des Moines.

The competition begins on July 13 at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia, and the finals are slated to be played from Sept. 19-20 in Salt Lake City.
