The reigning Super Bowl MVP is not one of the NFL’s top 10 quarterbacks, at least according to Cam Newton.

On the latest episode of 4th & 1 with Cam Newton, the Carolina Panthers legend gave his thoughts on ESPN’s list of the game’s very best passers. In fact, he even offered up a top-10 list of his own . . .

One pretty glaring omission from the list was Philadelphia Eagles star Jalen Hurts, who has recently been compared to Newton in some spirited debates between fans. Newton explained why he didn’t include the dynamic, dual-threat Super Bowl champ.

“Jalen Hurts is a great quarterback. Do not get that twisted,” Newton stated. “But if we’re talking about what they bring to the table, it’s hard to judge what Jalen Hurts can do when you’re throwing to a guy like A.J. Brown, Devonta Smith. When you have a tight end skill set, you have a dominant defense, you have the best running back [Saquon Barkley] in the game.”

Despite the accolades—the Lombardi Trophy, the two Pro Bowl selections and the second-team All-Pro nod—the 26-year-old Hurts is one of the more polarizing players in football. And some, like Newton, believe Hurts has greatly benefitted from what might be the most talented roster the NFL has seen in quite some time.

Regardless, Hurts has only played the hand he’s been dealt—and he’s played it well. In his four years as Philly’s full-time starter, he’s averaged 4,096.3 total yards per season while tallying 131 total touchdowns.

His 55 career rushing scores account for the third-most all-time by a quarterback. Newton still ranks No. 1 on that list with 75.
