When Malaki Starks heard his name called Thursday night, the former Georgia All-American safety embraced his parents, kissed his fiancé and headed onto the stage in Green Bay at the NFL draft.
Then came a long bear hug—21 seconds to be exact—and words he shared with commissioner Roger Goodell who had a chance to get close to Starks’ pink Brian Alexander suit.
Starks lifted Goodell up from the stage at one point.
“I’m ready to go,” Starks, the former Jefferson star, said on ESPN. “I’ve been waiting too long. I’m ready to go. I’m ready.”
Starks shared his draft night with parents Larry and Tisha Starks and Savanna Jackson, his girlfriend who he got engaged with in October.
He offered his take on what the Ravens are getting.
“I’ve got energy,” Starks said on ESPN. “I move around. I play at a high level playing at a university like Georgia. I’m just ready to go play ball.”
Starks said he will get to live “my dream,” by getting to play with Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton
He will also play with linebacker Roquan Smith, the former Georgia Butkus Award winner.
They drafted Starks to make plays. The hugs will come along with him.
