The Only Time Senna, Schumacher, and Prost Shared an F1 Podium Was 32 Years Ago Today

It was May 9, 1993, at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain. The Formula 1 world witnessed a unique convergence of talent as Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, and Michael Schumacher shared the podium for the first and only time. Between them, they would amass 14 world champions, 183 race wins, and 341 podium finishes.

The 1993 Spanish Grand Prix was the fifth race of the season. Prost, driving for Williams-Renault, secured pole position with a time of 1:17.809. Despite a slow start due to gearbox issues, he regained the lead from teammate Damon Hill on lap 11 and maintained it until the end.

Senna, in his McLaren-Ford, finished second, 16.873 seconds behind Prost, while Schumacher secured third place in his Benetton-Ford, 27.125 seconds adrift.

This race marked a significant moment in F1 history. Senna and Prost’s intense rivalry had defined the late 1980s and early 1990s, while Schumacher was emerging as a formidable force in the sport.Β
