Terrance Ferguson is expected to be a big part of the Los Angeles Rams’ offense for years to come, but he’s got a lot to learn as he makes the difficult transition from college to the pros as a tight end. Tyler Higbee, Colby Parkinson and Davis Allen are all still on the roster, too, so Ferguson is facing competition at that position.
Even though the Rams essentially drafted Ferguson to be Higbee’s replacement, the veteran nicknamed “Higs” has no problem helping the rookie along. When asked which players have helped him the most, Ferguson immediately mentioned Higbee.
“Higs is someone who jumps right off the bat,” Ferguson said this week. “I would say all the tight ends, though, have really leaned in and really helped me out – whether it’s the playbook, little subtle things that makes Higs great, being a veteran guy like that knowing and playing a lot of ball. Just being willing to pour into a young guy like me. I would say Higs has been especially big.”
The Rams have built a strong culture under Sean McVay in Los Angeles, making it a desirable landing spot for players. Ferguson was ecstatic to be drafted by the Rams and he says things have already gone better than he could’ve anticipated.
The transition from college to the pros can be particularly difficult for a tight end because of all the responsibilities that come with playing the position, and it’s even more challenging given the intricacies of McVay’s scheme.
Having a leader like Higbee guiding him along the way will only help Ferguson develop into the player Los Angeles believes he can become.
