Tennessee Titans training camp: Top 5 plays from Week 1

The Tennessee Titans will be back at work on Monday after wrapping up the first week of training camp with a spirited practice at Nissan Stadium on Saturday.  

While this week was just football in shorts, an air of optimism could be felt woven in with the highs and lows that come with a young football team. There is excitement building about the team’s potential with an offense led by Cam Ward and a defense that was transformed during the offseason. While that unit won early, the offense has come back and put on a show and are gaining confidence with every practice. 

Players on both sides of the ball made some highlight-worthy plays, giving fans hope that this unit can turn things around. 

Here’s a look at the top five plays of the week.

5. Some special teams love

The Titans had one of the most consistent kickers in the NFL last season with Nick Folk, and the veteran was the one thing the team could rely on. Surprisingly, they made a change during the offseason, going for a stronger leg over consistency, and they signed kicker Joey Slye. While kicks normally wouldn’t make the highlight reels, when you connect from 66 yards out, with enough left to be good from 70, you deserve to be mentioned. 

4. Burks’ highs and lows

Treylon Burks was said to be having a strong camp through the early sessions and was battling in a crowded room for a chance to establish himself as one of the top receivers in Nashville. On the play, the former first-round pick made a spectacular one-handed diving grab along the sideline, flashing the potential that Titans fans have been longing for. 

Unfortunately, the celebration couldn’t last, and Burks’ string of bad luck won the day. After making the grab, the veteran wideout headed straight to the locker room holding his shoulder. He was diagnosed with a fractured collarbone and will likely miss a large portion of the season. 

3. Ridley lays out

Wide receiver Calvin Ridley looks like a different player entering his second season with the Titans, and that could be significant for the offense heading into 2025. One thing that has been extremely noticeable is the chemistry with quarterback Cam Ward, something that was invisible in 2024 with Will Levis at the helm. Ridley looks recharged and his effort is on full display, making a diving grab from Ward. 

2. Good thing they aren’t in pads

It was a tremendous play, and one of the most exciting of the first week. While it’s true that If the team had been in pads, it would have likely been a sack and never taken place, but it did and it sent a bolt of excitement through the crowd at Nissan Stadium. The play between Ridley and Ward shows the big-play potential the Titans have amassed this offseason, and is one reason the future looks bright in Nashville. 

1. You can’t beat accuracy

At first glance, this play didn’t look special. That is, until you break it down and see the elite ball placement on the pass between Ward and Tyler Lockett. Ward dissected three defenders and hit Lockett with a perfect pass that only he could catch. As some analysts have pointed out, this was a perfect throw.
