Now that NFL teams are starting to get a first-hand look at their rosters during the offseason workout program, it’s time for the post-draft wave of free agency to ramp up, and there are still some good players available who could make a difference in 2026.
Like many teams, the Tennessee Titans still have some holes to fill and could find a bargain at this stage of free agency. While the top names available, Aaron Rodgers and Amari Cooper, appear to be headed elsewhere, other players could help solidify the Titans’ roster.
Linebackers such as Kyzir White, C.J. Mosley, or E.J. Speed would make a lot of sense for Tennessee to pair with Cody Barton. However, Jeffri Chadiha of NFL.com believes the Titans should kick the tires on a slot corner, naming Mike Hilton as the best fit among available free agents.
Hilton isn’t a huge name but he was a valuable slot cornerback for the Bengals when they evolved into championship contenders a few seasons ago. It just so happens that current Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan was the offensive coordinator in Cincinnati during those years, which is why advocating for this marriage isn’t a bad idea. The Titans obviously need help in multiple areas, which is why they held the first pick in this year’s draft. The secondary has been a concern because both of last year’s key acquisitions at cornerback disappointed (L’Jarius Sneed only played in five games while Chidobe Awuzie bombed so badly that the team released him in March). Hilton is feisty and a leader, which are two qualities the Titans need badly. The team does have a solid player in the slot already — Roger McCreary has embraced that role after struggling as an outside corner — but he’s also the only option at that position on the depth chart. Finding more able bodies in the secondary is a must.
This is not the first time that Hilton has been connected to the Titans; it was a prediction by a few outlets early in the free agency period.
Hilton, who bounced around NFL practice squads after entering the league as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2016, broke out as a slot corner for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2017. After four seasons with the Steelers, he moved on to the Cincinnati Bengals in 2021.
The Titans released Chidobe Awuzie earlier in the offseason and have only added Marcus Harris during the draft to offset that loss. Hilton is not flashy, but he is a solid slot corner with an outstanding work ethic who has steadily improved each season in the league and could be a solid addition to the defense in 2025.
