Team Garcia 5, Team Coffel 4

Team Garcia outlasted Team Coffel in a 5-4 extra-inning thriller on Friday night. The two teams exchanged blows in the fourth and fifth innings before Jadelyn Allchin’s late-game heroics lifted Team Garcia to the win.

In the top of the fourth inning, Sydney McKinney opened the scoring for Team Garcia. The former Wichita State Shocker ripped an RBI double to left, scoring a pair. Trailing 2-0 in the home half, Team Coffel’s Sierra Romero drew a bases-loaded walk to cut the deficit in half. Then, Caroline Jacobsen rocked an RBI double to the gap, clearing the bases and giving Team Coffel a 4-2 lead.

In the fifth, Team Garcia wasted no time responding. Megan Faraimo replaced Montana Fouts in the circle for Team Coffel, but Jessi Warren was quick to cut into the lead. Warren singled, scoring Ciara Briggs from third. The very next at-bat, Rachel Garcia helped her own cause, scoring Danieca Coffey on a single to tie the game at 4-4.

Lexi Kilfoyl showed out in the final frames of the game, tossing nearly six innings of scoreless relief and striking out seven. Faraimo suffered the loss, surrendering the final run of the game in the ninth inning. Allchin lifted a sacrifice fly to score Briggs for the go-ahead run. Kilfoyl then polished off another perfect inning in the bottom of the ninth to seal Team Garcia’s win.

Team Garcia earned the allotted 70 points for the win, while also garnering 20 inning points. The opposing Team Coffel didn’t walk away empty-handed, though, taking away 40 innings in the loss.

Team Kowalik 5, Team Ricketts 0

To complete the doubleheader slate, Team Kowalik shut out Team Ricketts 5-0. Aleshia Ocasio’s complete game win led the way on Friday night.

After a scoreless first inning, Team Kowalik scored first. Paige Sinicki laced a two-run double, scoring a pair of fellow rookies in Korbe Otis and Devyn Netz. It wasn’t until the fifth inning that Team Kowalik padded its lead. Baylee Klingler scored Sierra Sacco on an RBI single to left center. Klingler also added to Team Kowalik’s lead in the seventh, doubling home captain Kayla Kowalik. Otis then capped off the 5-0 win with an RBI triple.

Ocasio took the circle in the seventh to finish off her complete game win, retiring the final three batters of the game to end the game. Ocasio tossed only 94 pitches in her two-hit shutout, helping to clinch Team Kowalik’s win and all 130 points available.
