Steve Sarkisian Reveals Why He Hopes Arch Manning Contemplates Leaving Texas

There’s a lot of excitement within the Texas Longhorns football program, quarterback Arch Manning and former No. 1 recruit per On3 industry rankings, is set to take the offense over.

However, this may be the only year the Longhorns get out of Manning, as he will be eligible for the 2026 NFL Draft after the season, and it’s something head coach Steve Sarkisian revealed he hopes the quarterback has the opportunity to consider.

“Here’s what I hope,” Sarkisian said on Monday at the Houston Touchdown Club.”I hope he’s got a really hard decision to make around January 21. That means we played a long time. That means he played a really good season. And that means he’s trying to figure out do I want one more year in the burnt orange or is it time to go to the NFL. I hope it’s a really hard decision. I hope it’s not a no-brainer to come back to school.”

Of course, in his first two seasons, Manning has seen some playing time, appearing in 12 games, completing 63-of-95 passes for 969 yards, nine touchdowns, two interceptions and a 179 passing efficiency rating.

Now, he’s expected to completely take over the college football world as ESPN BET gives him the best odds (+700) to win the Heisman Trophy, while Texas has the second-best odds (+500) of winning the national championship.

If all goes as planned, there’s no doubt that Sarkisian’s hopes will become a reality, as a mock draft from Josh Edwards of CBS Sports already has Manning going No. 1 to the New Orleans Saints.

Of course, only time will tell if the hype is justified, as the Longhorns are set to open their season on Aug. 30 with a matchup against the reigning national champions, the Ohio State Buckeyes.
