Stephanie White’s Fired-Up Message to Fever After Beating Aces Without Caitlin Clark

Stephanie White’s Fired-Up Message to Fever After Beating Aces Without Caitlin Clark originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Indiana Fever were in dire need of a win on Thursday night. They entered their matchup against the Las Vegas Aces following back-to-back losses to the defending champs, the New York Liberty.

Caitlin Clark did not suit up for Thursday’s game after the team announced earlier in the day that the 23-year-old had no timetable for her return from a re-aggravated groin injury.

Fever Power Through Without Clark

Despite the odds being stacked against them, the shorthanded Fever still came through to secure a crucial win against A’ja Wilson and the Aces, 80-70.

It was a concerted effort from Indiana as the likes of Natasha Howard (18 points, 13 rebounds), Kelsey Mitchell (21 points, four assists), Aliyah Boston (13 points, 10 rebounds) and Sophie Cunningham (15 points, three triples) all stepped up for the Fever.

Stephanie White Sends a Message to Her Players

After the win, head coach Stephanie White delivered a powerful message to her players inside the locker room, congratulating them on the victory.

“We answered runs today, y’all,” White said. “We had one another’s back today, y’all. In the moments where it seemed like they could have made a little bit of a comeback, we stopped that. We sure did.

“Now we have to be able to continue to stack that. Maintain that consistency right there. … I’m so proud of you guys. So proud of you guys. That was a hard-fought win. You earned it.”

White deserves a lot of credit in this one, too, for preparing and executing an effective game plan against Las Vegas. She will need to do it again on Sunday as the Fever face off against the Chicago Sky in a much-anticipated rivalry showdown.

With Clark likely out of the picture for at least a few more games, Indiana (13-12) will need to continue holding down the fort, and a win against its biggest rival will be another step in the right direction.
