Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler combine for 75 points to push Warriors past Grizzlies in play-in

The Golden State Warriors are officially playoff-bound.

Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler combined for 75 points to push the Golden State Warriors past the Memphis Grizzlies in the play-in tournament to secure the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference postseason. With the No. 7 seed locked up, the Warriors will travel to Texas to meet the Houston Rockets in the first round of the postseason.

The arrival of “playoff Jimmy” didn’t take long, as Butler set the tone for the Warriors early, scoring 10 points with two rebounds and two assists in the opening quarter on Tuesday night at Chase Center.

Behind 21 first-half points from Butler, the Warriors jumped out to a 13-point lead at halftime. Golden State’s advantage ballooned to 20 points in the second quarter before a late run from Memphis.

In the third quarter, the Grizzlies responded. Desmond Bane began drilling a flurry of 3-pointers as the Grizzlies erased Golden State’s first-half advantage. Bane scored a team-high 30 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the field with five made 3-pointers.

In the final quarter, the Warriors and Grizzlies exchanged big shot after big shot. However, with the game tight down the stretch, Curry took over.

Curry buried back-to-back triples and four straight free throws to put away the Grizzlies, 121-116.

Curry finished the game with 37 points on 9-of-22 shooting from the field, with six made 3-pointers, eight boards, and four assists.

Butler added 38 points on 12-of-20 shooting from the field with seven rebounds, six assists and three steals. Butler knocked down 12-of-18 attempts from the free-throw line.

The No. 7 seed Warriors will now get four days off before traveling to Houston for the first round of the playoffs against the No. 3 seed Rockets.
