Pittsburgh Steelers QB2 Mason Rudolph threw an ugly, completely preventable interception in back-to-back games — while QB4 Skylar Thompson is arguably the preseason MVP through three games: let’s talk about it.
Knee-jerk reactions aside, Rudolph looked admirable in the preseason opener versus the Jacksonville Jaguars, but Thompson outperformed him in three straight contests — and his final performance in the preseason finale was nothing short of spectacular.
Over the past two preseason games, Rudolph has thrown one touchdown and two bad interceptions — while Thompson’s only interception in this same time period came off a dropped ball. Additionally, Rudolph’s passer rating over the last two matchups averages out at 72.8 — nowhere close to Thompson’s 101.0.
While alarming, the Steelers QB4 outperforming the QB2 is actually a great problem to have, as either signal-caller could easily be traded for a solid Day-3 pick ahead of final roster cuts — while rookie Will Howard waits for his opportunity to potentially become the next franchise quarterback.
