As the NFL offseason continues to drag on, quarterback Aaron Rodgers remains a free agent, with the Pittsburgh Steelers emerging as one of his only remaining options if he chooses to play.
As the four-time MVP continues to not make a final decision, it puts the Steelers in a tricky position with Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, and Will Howard, who they drafted in the sixth round, as the only quarterbacks heading into 2025.
However, while appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show,” NFL insider Ian Rapoport revealed that Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins could emerge as a new option.
“If he leaves Atlanta, where might he go?” Rapoport said. “If your good friend Aaron Rodgers does not go to Pittsburgh, I think that would be a possibility.”
“If Aaron Rodgers doesn’t go to Pittsburgh I think that’s a possibility for Kirk Cousins..
It feels like the other possibilities kind of don’t exist after the draft..
The longer this goes it feel like he’s gonna be the Falcons backup” ~ @RapSheet#PMSLivepic.twitter.com/ZzLRxumpg7

Of course, Cousins did find himself struggling in 2024, starting in 14 games, completing 303-of-453 passes for 3,508 yards, 18 touchdowns, 16 interceptions (most in the NFL) and an 88.6 passer rating.
The poor performance on the field led to him losing the starting spot late in the season to Michael Penix Jr., who the Falcons had just selected with the No. 8 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
However, there’s no doubt that he has proven to be a borderline elite starter in the NFL and in 2021 for the Minnesota Vikings completed 372-of-561 passes for 33 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 103.1 passer rating.
Of course, another big piece for the Steelers to potentially pivot from Rodgers to Cousins is the willingness to take on his four-year, $180 million contract, which would keep him with the team through the 2027 season.
