Steelers-Aaron Rodgers Information Spells Good News for Will Howard

Will Howard, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ sixth-round (No. 185) pick, signed a four-year contract on Friday. He aspires to be their next man under center, and Peter Schrager’s insights only reinforce that expectation.

In the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday, Schrager revealed that veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers has not confirmed any deal with the Steelers despite what management is trying to portray.

“Aaron Rodgers has been very up front with the Steelers and he was very up front with the Giants.” He said. “The Steelers are willing to wait and I don’t think Pittsburgh knows more now than they did before the draft.”

Will Howard now sits behind Mason Rudolph in the QB1 race. If Rodgers doesn’t choose the Steelers, Howard could see game action this season, something that would have been complicated with Rodgers’ presence.

“These teams have been given the choice to wait on Rodgers. Now the Giants, they pivoted. They signed Jameis, then they signed Russ, and then they drafted Jaxson Dart.” Schrager said. “The Steelers, however, made a great meeting. It all went well. He told them the same exact thing. And the Steelers’ decision was to go back into their facility and say, all right, we’re willing to wait. So this is the price they’re paying a little bit.”

“I don’t think there’s this assumed handshake deal…They would’ve announced it. They would’ve signed him. They would’ve done it. I still think he’s[Rodgers] deliberating.” He added.

There’s been speculation that Aaron Rodgers is getting married, and that’s why his decision has been delayed, after a wedding ring was spotted on his finger. But nothing is definitive; even on the show, no one had an answer.

As things stand, Will Howard has a strong chance to learn the playbook, climb the depth chart, and potentially start games in the Steelers’ upcoming season.
