The Pittsburgh Steelers may have a wide receiver acquisition in mind — as QB Aaron Rodgers reportedly called his former Green Bay Packers to inquire about a pass catcher’s availability.
According to Packers insider Bill Huber, Rodgers was interested in WR Romeo Doubs, a rumored trade target and potential Packers roster cut candidate — calling Green Bay himself to learn more about his status.
“Rodgers called on Monday, one day before roster cuts; interestingly, he asked about the status of receiver Romeo Doubs,” Huber wrote. “Exactly two months after Tuesday’s roster cuts, the Packers will visit the Steelers on Oct. 26.”
Selected by the Packers with the 132nd pick in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Doubs has caught 147 passes for 1,700 yards and 15 touchdowns over his first three years in Green Bay.
Whether Pittsburgh actually pulls the trigger on a trade for Doubs or waits for the Packers to release him remains to be seen — but if Huber’s claims are true, Rodgers clearly has his former teammate in mind.
