The Dallas Stars made history on Tuesday night, and it wasn’t for the right reasons. The Stars looked to be in cruise control after Mikael Granlund’s empty net goal gave the Stars a 5-2 lead with over two minutes left. What followed was a three-goal comeback that led to the Vancouver Canucks completing the comeback win in overtime. The Canucks would become the first team in NHL history to win a game after erasing a three-goal deficit in the final game of regulation.
The Dallas Stars have stumbled quite a bit in recent games, with the biggest misstep coming last night in their season finale against the Vancouver Canucks. What occurred in the final minute of regulation, and beyond, should be a concern for those who hope and believe that the Stars are serious Stanley Cup Contenders. The epic collapse notched the third straight loss to for Dallas, two of which came via a loss in overtime. In their prior contest with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Stars had another bungle at the end of the match as Thomas Harley and Cody Ceci collided, leading to an odd-man rush resulting in a go-ahead goal from the Penguins.
Now while some not see this is a trend, the nature of these loses paired with another to an on-the-fence playoff team Minnesota Wild, one can nevertheless still be worried. Seeing as this time of the year is time the period for top seeded playoff contenders to polish off their game, it comes as a surprise of the current disarray the Stars are in during their three-game stretch. Getting back on track will prove more difficult than Dallas will like, as they will next face off against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night. Many looked forward to this game as a potential game that would ultimately decide the division, will now be a game that Stars fans hope can start a new winning streak that pours into the playoffs.
