Social media reacts to MSU landing commitment from Miami (FL) transfer PG Divine Ugochukwu

Michigan State basketball added a backup point guard via the transfer portal on Sunday, which of course drew feedback and responses from many who follow the Spartans’ program.

Miami (FL) transfer Divine Ugochukwu announced his commitment to Michigan State on Sunday afternoon. He had recently visited Michigan State and had long been connected with the Spartans so the commitment on Sunday should have came as no surprise. The Spartans beat out reported finalists Texas Tech and USC for Ugochukwu’s commitment.

During his freshman season at Miami (FL), Ugochukwu played in 28 games, including 16 starts, and averaged 20.2 minutes per game. He averaged 5.3 points, 2.3 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.0 steals this past season. He shot an efficient 48.3% from the field, including a 61% 2-point field goal percentage, but struggled from behind the arc with a 17.6% 3-point field goal percentage.

The addition of Ugochukwu fills a need at point guard as Michigan State was in the market for another ball handler. He is expected to serve as the primary backup at point guard for returning starter Jeremy Fears Jr.
