With the NBA draft right around the corner, now is the time to look at some past drafts and see what the Philadelphia 76ers have done in their history. The Sixers have selected some big-time players in the past who have become an important part of the fabric of the franchise’s history.
This edition remains focused on the 2020 NBA draft as the Sixers were able to add a productive big man in Round 2. After selecting Tyrese Maxey with the No. 21 pick in the first round, the Sixers added Paul Reed with the No. 58 pick in the 2020 draft.
Reed spent four seasons with the Sixers averaging 5.1 points and 4.2 rebounds as the backup to Joel Embiid. The big man out of DePaul brought infectious energy to the table and became a fan favorite with his “Out the Mud” brand and his nickname of “Bball Paul”.
After four seasons, the Sixers waived Reed in the 2024 offseason and the Detroit Pistons picked him up. He played 45 games for the Pistons in the 2024-25 season averaging 4.1 points and 2.7 rebounds and helping them make the playoffs for the first time since 2019 and win their first playoff game since 2008.
