With the NBA draft right around the corner, now is the time to look at some past drafts and see what the Philadelphia 76ers have done in their history. The Sixers have selected some big-time players in the past who have become an important part of the fabric of the franchise’s history.
This edition focuses on the 2024 draft as the Sixers appeared to have found themselves a diamond in the rough. After going undrafted out of Kentucky, they signed Philadelphia native Justin Edwards to a two-way deal. When considering all of the injuries the Sixers went through in 2024-25, Edwards was able to earn himself an opportunity.
The undrafted rookie averaged 10.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists while shooting 36.3% from deep. He had a lot of great moments as he showed off his overall game as an athletic player getting to the basket while also showing off an ability to knock down an open look from deep.
As the Sixers move ahead into the 2025-26 season, the Sixers expect to hand a much bigger role to Edwards and allow him to flourish next to the stars. It’s all about youth and cheap depth in today’s day and age in the NBA and Edwards fits that mold for Philadelphia.
