The New York Jets are young and inexperienced at tight end heading into training camp. The favorite to start at the position is rookie Mason Taylor, the 42nd overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft. Taylor signed his contract just days ago after a league-wide standoff over guaranteed money for second round picks.
Now that Taylor is officially signed and won’t miss training camp, he can begin forming chemistry with starting quarterback Justin Fields. Taylor projects to play a massive role on offense in 2025. The Jets don’t have much else at tight end.
That’s precisely why general manager Darren Mougey could consider adding a veteran to the room. An intriguing option just became available. The Seattle Seahawks surprisingly released Noah Fant on Sunday evening. Fant should have suitors around the league, with the Jets potentially being one of them.

Fant would come in and replace Jeremy Ruckert. The No. 101 overall selection in the 2022 NFL draft has failed to meet expectations thus far. Ruckert, who recorded just 18 receptions for 105 yards last season and has yet to score an NFL touchdown in three seasons, is entering a make-or-break camp.
Fant’s presence would potentially be good for Taylor. He’s an experienced pro who could help show Taylor the ropes. It’d be up to offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand to ensure he’s splitting their reps appropriately.
The Jets should consider signing Fant. The veteran pass-catching tight end may prefer to join a contender, though. The Jets also have to weigh how adding Fant would impact (positively or negatively) Taylor’s usage. They’ll probably opt to ride Taylor as a rookie.
