Vanderbilt baseball relief ace Sawyer Hawks is out for the series opener against Ole Miss on April 25, according to the SEC’s pregame availability report.
The reason for his unavailability has not been disclosed. Players must be listed on the report if they are out for any reason, including injury, illness or suspension. He was not listed on the pre-series availability report released April 24.
Vanderbilt (30-11, 11-7 SEC) takes on Ole Miss (29-12, 10-8) in a weekend road series at Swayze Field in Oxford, Miss.
Hawks has been the Commodores’ top relief arm this season. He is 3-0 with a 1.34 ERA and leads the team with six saves. He has 46 strikeouts and seven walks in 33⅔ innings. He transferred to Vanderbilt from Air Force before the 2024 season but missed most of that year with an injury.
RJ Austin, who is dealing with a biceps and shoulder injury, was listed as a game-time decision on the report.
