Saudi Pro League clubs are ‘active’ in pursuing a deal to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer.

Onana’s future at Manchester United is in doubt after the Cameroon international was dropped for Sunday’s 4-1 defeat at Newcastle United.

His exclusion from the squad came after two errors during the 2-2 draw at Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals. Onana has made eight errors leading to goals since the start of last season, more than any other Premier League goalkeeper.

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was keen to give Onana ‘a period of rest to clear his head after a tough time on and off the pitch’. It is unclear whether he will return in goal for the second leg against Lyon on Thursday. He had previously played every minute in the Premier League since his arrival in 2023.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Saudi Pro League sides are monitoring his situation at Old Trafford.

After initially expressing interest in signing Onana in 2023, Saudi sides retain an ‘active interest’ in signing the shot-stopper this summer. Onana turned down interest from the Middle East in 2023 to sign for United from Inter Milan for a fee of £43.8m.
