Saquon Barkley Turns Heads Visiting Trump Before Eagles' White House Trip

The Philadelphia Eagles are scheduled to visit the White House on April 28 to celebrate their dominant win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

While the Eagles declined to visit President Donald Trump’s White House in 2018, team owner Jeffrey Lurie looks forward to this year’s trip “We just felt this is a time-honored tradition, being invited by the White House,” Lurie told reporters. “There was no reticence whatsoever. To be celebrated at the White House is a good thing.”

However, it’s not clear how many players are attending. “Our culture is, these are optional things,” Lurie noted. “If you want to enjoy this, come along and we’ll have a great time… This is really just an invitation to the White House. We’re not politicizing it in any way.”

While attending the Time 100 Gala in New York City last week, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts declined to answer as to whether he planned to visit the White House.

“Ummmmm,” he said while looking around nervously on the red carpet. While fans will have to wait until Monday to see which players attend, Eagles running Saquon Barkley is already spending time with Trump.

A photo of Barkley visiting Trump at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, drew attention on Sunday.

While some fans were thrilled to see the 28-year-old superstar hanging out with President Trump, others felt incredibly disappointed. The AP’s Offensive Player of the Year has never been outspoken when it comes to politics nor has he publicly endorsed a presidential candidate.

While Trump picked the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl this year, he spoke of Barkley talent in a Fox News interview before the big game.

I said, ‘Who’s that guy?’ They said, ‘Saquon Barkley.’ I said, ‘Man, he’s a great running back,'” Trump said. “His great-uncle was Iran Barkley, a great fighter, a middleweight champion. Saquon is a fantastic player, and I think he’s going to have a great game.”
